THANK YOU!

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of you who supported me in this year's School Committee election. I am excited and energized to be returning to the Committee and continuing to work on behalf of all the children of Cambridge. The Cambridge Public Schools are on the brink of something special, but there is so much still left to do. It is because of you that I will be able to continue to bring my passion for children and for our community to the School Committee and I can't thank you enough. As always, I want to hear from you, so please contact me and let me know what you think. I would also like to express my thanks to the eight other candidates. The results clearly show what a strong field it was, which boads well for our schools.

Thank you for visiting!

Thank you for taking the time to visit my web page. I trully appreciate your taking time out of your busy schedule to learn about who I am and why I'm running for School Committee. I am running because I strongly believe that public schools are the backbone of our community. Schools are where future generations come to learn the skills that will help them become successful members of society, where parents interact, where community events take place, and where our future is born. I am a proud graduate of the Cambridge Public Schools and have enjoyed nothing more then serving two terms on the School Committee, working to improve educational opportunities for all children.

Like so many districts, the Cambridge Public Schools struggle to educate all of its children at high levels. Our schools work very well for some students but not well for others. Children of higher socioeconomic status tend to do well, while their neighbors of lower socioeconomic status do not. We must find a way to educate all of our children to their full potential. We must work toward a school system that is blind to race, class, culture or learning style, so that every child, regardless of their demographic has the opportunity to learn and thrive. We must make sure that those students who are above grade level are challenged and pushed even higher, while at the same time supporting those children who struggle. This is a tall order, but it is our obligation, it is our responsibility and it is our duty to future generations.

In this website you will find my positions on many issues. I will be updating these pages throughout the next several months. I am always willing to talk with those who are interested in my ideas or who wish to share their positions with me. Please feel free to contact me at marcmcgovern@gmail.com. Thank you again.

Respectfully,
Marc McGovern
